iData SIP ExplainedWhile VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol – or phone lines over the internet) covers many different things, business ITSPs (Internet Telephony Service Providers) almost all use SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) – this is seen as a viable alternative to the traditional ISDN. SIP Trunks refer to individual SIP sessions and are in effect the equivalent to ISDN30e lines, so to make it simple one SIP Trunk will allow you to have one simultaneous call via our SIP service.
SIP is the protocol that controls the call; this includes setting up the call and closing it down. The actual voice media uses another protocol RTP (Real Time Protocol), sent as normal IP packets. The IP traffic requires an internet connection to travel over and this is where the fun begins, as the required bandwidth is not normally provided by your Service Provider. So just because you have ordered 10 SIP trunks doesn’t mean that you will have enough bandwidth to make 10 calls.
iData is the only business ISP which is also an ITSP and an interconnected operator offering one of the best voip sip provider services. As well as offering SIP Trunks we have a leading hosted solution – iData SIP Communicator – for more information on this please call us or contact us to discuss a solution that will work for you.
SIP Trunks save Businesses thousands of pounds per year compared with the traditional ISDN30e line rental. iData can also save you up to 50% on ISDN30e Installation and SDSL connectivity costs.
iData’s SIP Trunks offer you outstanding cost savings compared with ISDN30e and ISDN2e – as well as being a true business quality solution. iData is one of only a few interconnected operator and Internet service providers with its own SIP Trunk solution. SIP Trunks are a genuine alternative to ISDN30e – we provide a managed service covering the IP connectivity, SIP Trunks and number management – exactly the same as with ISDN30e.
We have numbers allocated on all UK dialling codes – allowing you to have the dialling code you require. In addition to this, any BT Retail number can be ported to our network – allowing your clients to retain their number when moving premises.
One of the great advantages of SIP is the ability to have numbers from any dialling code delivered to your office – regardless of its location.
SIP is ideal as a Disaster Recovery (DR) solution. Any number on the iData network can be forwarded to any other location – as long as it is connected via a SIP Trunk or a normal telephone line. In the event of a failure of the main site, calls can be forwarded to home telephone numbers, mobile or other sites – or a combination of locations/numbers.
iData is also able to provide a range of backup solutions for the underlying IP bearer, or combine a solution of SIP Trunks and normal ISDN30e lines.
For a customer with 10 ISDN30e lines and 100 DDI numbers, our SIP Trunks are 48% less expensive – with a wide range of backup options:
