A static (or fixed) IP address is a unique identification number used by your computer to connect to the Internet. It is used by a device to identify itself to and be located by the network.
It is provided by and associated with a specific broadband provider and cannot be moved between providers.
All our business broadband options come with a dynamic IP address (a string of digital numbers such as 147.191.100.114) as standard, to identify the device accessing the Internet. Unlike a static IP, with the dynamic IP an interruption in the broadband connection may result in a new IP address being allocated.
A static IP address adds to the capacity and robustness of your business' Internet capabilities. From remote access to running your own website and FTP server, a static IP address is a sensible choice for growing businesses.
A dynamic IP address is not suitable if you want a computer to be permanently visible on the Internet.
